    I think hammer grip is THE best ..... Fred Pery , Arthur Ashe , Illie Nastasi , Johny Mac , Estefan Edberg all were using hammer grip .... the most versatile grip of all . tennis is NOT about power, tennis is about Art of placement AND depth .... depth and placement beats ANY powerful tennis player .

    • @PerformancePlusTennis
      @PerformancePlusTennis День тому

      I appreciate your perspective and comments. And I agree the continental grip is the most versatile. However, the game has changed...more power, more spin, higher contact points, etc. We don't see players using the C grip on the forehand for these reasons. The Eastern and Semi-western provide better leverage and power and all contact points (low, medium and high), and the ability to generate more topspin. Edberg was literally the last to use it (although Gasquet is not far off the C grip), but he, like the others mentioned had one goal...get to the net. Their forehands would never survive in the game today. Kindly, John

      @@PerformancePlusTennis The main reason I LOVE C grip is because of its great utility in the return of the todays huge serve.....in this beautiful clip you could see how Jonny mac is retuning Boris serve so effectively. Not only he is returning But also attacking !!! ....No other grip can allow you to do that .... Also, Edberg had the same quality. Parrick Rafter was using ALL C grip for his return of serve against Sampras and Richard Krajicek serve so effectively ua-cam.com/video/Bbkl05sJ0SA/v-deo.htmlsi=MK_x-qFq4D21_DEZ

    I agree that many pros hit underspin volleys, but David MacPherson, who coached the Bryan brothers for most of their career, said they had the best volleys in the world because they hit higher volleys flat-and hard with lots of “stick.” It can be done with a continental grip; you just tilt the racket face so it’s perpendicular to your intended line of the ball’s flight and hit slightly down, moving the racket face on that same line. It’s easy to do on high volleys because don’t have to get the head of your racket quite so high.

    • @PerformancePlusTennis
      @PerformancePlusTennis 3 дні тому

      Thanks for the feedback and comments, BJ. When it comes to the Bryan brothers and their style of doubles, the flatter volleys were often more effective because they were all over the net...closer than almost any team in history, (maybe McEnroe the same) and certainly closer than when playing singles on most volleys. Technically, the idea of tilting the Racquet face using the same grip involves the wrist and is a tough task for most rec players, and it doesn't make sense. Best, John

    Two of the best servers in the history of tennis have very low toss. Goran Ivanisevic and Nick Kyrios. IF Kyrios had any mental game, he would be one of the best tennis players in history. So low toss claims is flat wrong.

    Or you can go straight to between the eastern grip and the semi-western grip. And progressively move over little by little to the semi-western grip. Or if you don't want to waste time, go straight to the semi-western grip. Practice driving through balls at different heights with the semi-western grip.

    Seems like sinner utilize seesaw effect from the shoulder more than the mainly rotational style like federer or alcaraz. Look at his shoulder position. First even, then the shoulder of non dominant arm goes upward while shoulder of the hitting arm is lower.

    Intriguing that. Me lm a Lefthander. To hit a full.on Top Spin Serve with the ball a fair way behind your head automatically changes your Service Action & in these merits throws up real problems for the Receiver judging plain of the Ball. Best of all this Ball toss stops any nature in haphazardly looking at or around the Sun. Mark

    When I’m doing palm to palm, if I were to practice doing a kick serve or a slice serve, I’m having trouble visualizing what the choreograph should look like. Does the palm to palm only work for a topspin serve?

    • @PerformancePlusTennis
      @PerformancePlusTennis 8 днів тому

      Hi Nicholas, thanks for your question. Actually, the palm palm exercise is designed to activate the long access rotation of the shoulder through the arm. It is the first step to understanding how the Continental grip and shoulder rotation create the appropriate swing. However, for a slice serve, The palm of your playing hand will not completely face forward, but it will be on a slight angle as the face of the racket sweeps across the back of the ball. For a topspin serve , the playing palm will rise more vertically from below. I hope this makes sense and I will clarify this in a in the near future. Best, John

    This is a brilliant and complete exposition. The only additional point I can think of that would have been helpful is the relationship between the descent of the non dominant arm and the leg drive - do they happen together or does one initiate the other? But overall this was so helpful, thanks.

    • @PerformancePlusTennis
      @PerformancePlusTennis 9 днів тому

      Hi Tony, Thanks for the great feedback! Sorry if I did not clarify that one point. Ideally the two sync up to occur at the same time, so the racquet is falling while the legs are pushing up and left arm is creating the shoulder over shoulder rotation.Let me know if you have questions. All the best, John
